Dakota

October, 2019

Dakota was a loving, attentive, loyal companion to my friend Kathleen for many years. Each morning you could find them walking the beach as the sun rose. Dakota greeted everyone along her walk (of course with her ball) and bid them good morning with a wag of her tail. She was loved and will be missed. Adopt a pet today.

John was a big softy when referring to all of his many cats and dogs.  He was taken too soon, but will be remembered fondly by his family and many close friends.

Al Swainston

September, 2019

Al was a lover of the environment, animals, and photography.  He had started a pet photography business in early retirement with plans for profits to go to animal shelters.  However, the debilitating symptoms of Parkinson’s prevented him from pursuing this dream.  He will be sadly missed by our cat, Caper, family and friends.

Douglas Neil McDowell

January, 2019

A man who worked hard to be a curmudgeon and failed miserably.  A man who told me he loved animals, but rather not have pets.  A man who carried the injured pug, Willie, everywhere until he healed.  A man who re-arranged rugs so my elderly Springer Spaniel could walk around without slipping. A man who loved and bonded with the rescue from SC who had been in the no kill shelter for two years.  A man who never ‘liked’ the foster fail Lhasa Apso (my dog, I was told), but would let him sit on his lap when I was away.  A man who planned to only give senior pets a chance going forward-as I will do for both of us.

Myron Cross

May 2018

Myron C Cross Jr passed away peacefully on May 20, 2018.   He was preceded in death by his parents Myron Sr and Edith Cross. Myron was born August 14, 1933 in Butler, PA in his Grandma’s house and spent his early years in Pittsburgh, PA.  He enjoyed playing golf, hunting and he ran track.  He graduated from Penn Township High School in 1951.  That is where he met the love of his life, Louise.  Him and Louise married in 1954.  They had their first daughter, Debbie, in 1955.  In 1959, they had another daughter, Rae, and they left Pittsburgh to go to the Midwest – Rapid City, South Dakota first and then Wichita, Kansas which is where they had their son, Skip. Myron worked on the missile silos in Tucson, Arizona; Cheyenne, Wyoming and Little Rock, Arkansas.  He brought his family to Brevard County in 1963 to pursue a career at Cape Canaveral as a Quality Control Inspector on the Titan III, Gemini and Apollo Missions.  Myron was on the team that loaded the propellant into the lunar module that landed on the moon.  Myron and Louise hob-nobbed with the likes of Alan Shepard, Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Gus Grissom, while he was employed at the Cape.
After Myron left the Cape, he pursued a second career in the building industry by first joining the Carpenters Union and working on such projects as the Hutchinson Island Power Plant in Fort Pierce and the Indian River Memorial Hospital.  He then formed his own carpentry sub-contractor company working on townhouses, single family homes, restaurants, and other commercial buildings.  After that he went to work with various building corporations as a General Superintendent.  He worked up until his forced retirement in 2007 due to bladder cancer.
Myron had many interests he was passionate about cave exploring, leather tooling, boating, water skiing (including barefoot skiing), motorcycling, archery, scuba diving, horse riding, camping.  Myron loved and adored his wife, Louise.  All of the interests he had they shared.  They had many, many animals in their lifetime; exotic birds, fish, horses, cats, dogs, and a monkey.  They raised cows, chickens, pigs, hybrid wolves and Great Danes. Their passion later in life was the raising and showing of their English Mastiffs.
They went on several cruises.  On their 50th wedding anniversary their children gave them a surprise vow renewal party (which was the only time he ever danced) and sent them on a trip to Costa Rica.  Then on their 55th wedding anniversary, their children sent them on an interior cruise in Alaska.  They were really a true love story, being married for 64 years.
Myron is survived by his wife, Louise Cross, his children Debbie Cross and her companion, Todd Burdette of Fellsmere; Myron III (Skip) Cross of Palm Bay and Rae Cross and her companion, Phil Smith of Sebastian; his God Daughter, Trude Hull and her husband, Fred.  He is also survived by his grandsons Camyron Cross and David Cross and granddaughter Brianna Cross.

Becky Garceau

May 2018

Where do I begin?!

To know Becky, was to love her. She was a kind and generous soul who always helped others and gave herself so selflessly to not only people but animals. Beckys second love was her fur babies.. Not only her own but all those currently residing in shelters. She spent countless hours, money and time to make sure that all animals that she came in contact with were loved and cared for. That’s just the kind of person Becky was. Her sweet nature, smile and infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew and loved her. ️️

She was an animal lover, cat's mostly, Ching and Sally were her beloved pets but she took care of all the strays in her neighborhood as well by keeping food and water in the trunk of her car for any she saw. Georgine “Jean” Monahan

Passed Away August 1st at age 75

Jean was a loving, giving woman and a devoted mom to her two beloved Huskys, Amber and Lance.  It gives us great peace to know that she has been reunited with Val, her cherished Shepherd/Husky mix, who was no doubt eagerly awaiting her at the foot of the Rainbow Bridge.   And it would surely give her great happiness to know that the love and forever home that she gave to her “kids” will be given to others in her name.

Gloria F. Rado

Simon Leslie

December 23, 1959-January 12, 2015

Simon was a caring person who truly loved dogs and all animals. When circumstances forced him to give up his beloved dogs, we found H.A.L.O. as the ONLY area no kill shelter available! Simon would be honored to know that his passing could serve to help ensure that this facility remains the helping hand of the community. Thank you so much for your donation in his memory!
