Mention rescue animals to the associates at the Macy’s Vero Beach location and their “Magic of Giving” program becomes a mission! During the month of February, the Macy’s associates at the Indian River Mall location donated much needed pet food, blankets, Milk Bones, etc. to H.A.L.O., Indian River County’s no-kill animal rescue – Helping Animals Live and Overcome. In addition, the monetary donations raised by the associates were matched by Macy’s resulting in over $700 going to the shelter.
A huge thank you to Sequin's on Ocean Drive for hosting a Bubbles & Baubles event benefitting HALO.
Some of our furry friends available for adoption attended the cocktail party where a percentage of the evening's sales were donated to HALO. An extra highlight to the evening was that the owner of Sequins adopted two rabbits, Thumper and Thelma. They are extremely lucky to be going to their wonderful new home. Thank you from all the animals for hosting a wonderful and fun event and supporting HALO!
Many thanks to Sebastian Karate for supporting HALO at the Treasure Coast Karate Challenge held in Micco on March 15th. Not only did they raise money by donating $5 of each registration to HALO they also invited our furry friends to participate where Marley came away with top honors – a new forever home! What a great group of friends and family to have under our HALO belt!
American Legion Poker Tournament
It may not have been ‘quite Vegas’ at the Sebastian American Legion Post #189 this past Saturday but the charity poker tournament they held to benefit the rescues at HALO hit the jackpot! The HALO family is always so happy to be a part of this event and look forward to next year at the Legion.
Defenders Poker Run
Sun, sand and that heart pounding rumble of a Harley all helped to make the 1st Annual Poker Run, for the Fur Faces of HALO, one of the best events of the year! Organized by the Defenders Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club of the Treasure Coast and held at Earl’s Hideaway in Sebastian, the day could not have been any better. We want to send out a special “thank you" to the Defenders for sharing HALO’s dream of a better life for all rescues, to Earl’s for providing the perfect venue for this event, to all of the riders who ‘rode for the paws’ and to those who donated their hard earned tips! Without all of your support and heartfelt caring, we never could have enjoyed this day to it’s fullest.
It was a nice day in the neighborhood when the Sebastian PNC Bank on US Hwy 1 invited HALO to participate in their Client Appreciation Day. Many familiar faces chatted with the rescues and volunteers while everyone enjoyed the wonderful refreshments provided by the PNCassociates. Thanks to Julie, an adorable 'poodle pup' from HALO named Tiny, became a permanent member of their PNC family!
Dog Tested. Dog Approved. Nothing more needs to be said about this past Saturday's Love-A-Pet Day at Dyer Subaru in Vero Beach. The weather was perfect, the food was outstanding and a lot of new friends were met! Many thanks to Christine, the Dyer family and all of the Dyer associates for honoring those in the community for our service to the four-legged residents of Indian River County.
It was another beautiful day in paradise this past Saturday when the City of Sebastian’s Natural Resources Board once again hosted our city’s annual EarthDay/Arbor Day celebration. HALO volunteers did their part by promoting the need to spay/neuter your pet, the importance of keeping pet waste out of the lagoon, explaining how to make your kitty cat a happy house cat and, of course, the many advantages of adopting a ‘recycled’ pet. In keeping with the pace, both Bruno and Buster Brown, our two canine volunteers of the day (who were also up for adoption) found their new furever homes! What a great day for Mother Earth and HALO - and remember - Recycle, Reuse and Rescue!
For the HALO volunteers and the rescues that accompany them, going to the PNC Bank on Beachland Boulevard in Vero Beach is like going to our second home. Each month since November 2013, the staff at this PNC branch greet us with open arms, fresh coffee and delicious cookies. They open their offices to allow the kitties to stretch their legs and encourage their customers to get acquainted with HALO. This wonderful group of ladies share HALO's dreams and support the mission of no-kill animal rescue in Indian River County.
Dash For Dogs
In so many ways it was a perfect Saturday morning at the Ted Whitlock Community Center this past weekend! Runners and walkers joined by their furry family members joined HALO volunteers and adoptable pups to participate in Dash for the Dogs 5K Run/Walk.
The name says it all – Kids Blast 2014 was a blast and it seemed as if there were thousands of kids! But it wasn’t just the kids that had a blast. The Buggy Bunch sure knows how to bring a community together and we cannot begin to thank them enough for allowing HALO to participate in what we hope will be an annual event. After being entertained by the adorable HALO pups and kittens, the children made their very own ‘tube pets’. A very special 'thank you' goes out to the volunteers at this event for the one-on-one attention they showed each and every child that entered our tent!
Preparing for a hurricane is certainly a very serious matter but what a great time everyone had during the Hurricane Expos! Both the Indian River Mall and the Sebastian Home Depot were wonderful venues to deliver our message on how to keep your special four-legged family members safe during a hurricane. Always remember that it takes just one storm to wreak havoc, so be prepared!
Life does not get any better than when two non-profits work together! HALO volunteers along with Buster Brown and Emilio enjoyed a visit with the wonderful folks at Goodwill’s Vero Beach Adult Day Training program for individuals with disabilities. Buster Brown was quite eager to demonstrate how to properly greet an unfamiliar dog and Emilio purred for hours while enjoying the loving hands that stroked his head so gently. As if the visit could not get any better, our hosts had gone shopping and we were gifted with an enormous amount of dog and cat food, kitty litter, cleaning supplies and way too much to list. Both HALO and Goodwill are excited to get together soon for another great visit!
As we said, we do love a party and the folks at The Dashing Dog Store were the perfect host! Congratulations to John and Eric and their Cocker Spaniels, Sophie and Lucky for three wonderful years. It was also a very exciting day for one of HALO’s rescue, Oreo, also a Cocker Spaniel, as he found his forever home! We have already marked the calendar for 2015!
